Yosemite Valley

Yosemite

Description

@yosemitenps: Yesterday, Yosemite Valley, one of the most popular tourist destinations on earth; was enveloped by fresh rain, alpine snowmelt, and a breath of solitude. The only feet that walked the time-worn paths were those of Yosemite employees working to protect the park that we love.
As morning passed under a heavy curtain of rainfall, the unyielding Merced rose steadily, creating islands where valley residents and a flood response team waited, watched, and worked. Meadows became lakes, roads became rivers, and the power of nature that created this park were tangible and omnipresent.
At midday, the sky cleared, and the park felt truly wild. Coyotes chased rodents displaced from their burrows by water, to feed their new pups. Ducks and mergansers swam down the streets, and bobcats roamed the empty villages. Clouds haloed the silent granite peaks, and light poured into the valley, as if to say: THIS is Yosemite. This raw, untameable power, this wildness, this water and stone and wildlife and wind.

And we are lucky enough to witness it.
